4U Radio Console Photos

All the ships in the Mothball Fleet are silent, dark and without power. We made our way through the ships with the aid of flashlights and miner's lamps. Here's Richard Dillman in the radio room of a P2 troop ship.

The radio console from the SS Rider Victory/KQTK was selected as the best candidate for restoration. This console and a large amount of spares, parts sets and documentation was transported to the basement restoration room of the San Francisco Maritime Museum. Here's Richard Dillman standing with the HF section of the console showing the transmitter, receiver and, to the right of the receiver, the emergency crystal set. The dirt and grime from years of storage and neglect may be seen on the panel of the transmitter.
