4U Radio Console Photos

The 4U radio console was the pride of the Radiomarine Corporation, a division of RCA. It was marketed as a complete package, ready for installation on any ocean-going ship. The manuals supplied with the console include drawings to be supplied to the shipyard for the fabrication of the mounts the the console would need.

Here a 4U console is proudly displayed in the window of an Abercrombie and Fitch store along with additional equipment including a radiotelephone. The SS Rider Victory did not have a radiotelephone installed until it was reactivated for duty in the Viet Nam war.

The 4U console chosen for the restoration project was obtained from the Victory ship SS Rider Victory, one of several such ships in the scrap row of the Mothball Fleet north of San Francisco.
